Shaw Trust is registered as a company limited by guarantee.
Wiltshire Social Services are strong supporters of sheltered employment and set up opportunities for Shaw Trust to present our ideas to directors of social services from across southern England. Enquiries start to come in from all over the country.
The Mental Health Act 1983 aims to give people with mental ill health more rights and care in the community. Local authorities are allocated central government grants to support people with mental ill health in the community. Shaw Trust is keen to ensure that this includes opportunities to work.

1984
Shaw Trust takes over Palmer Gardens, a two-acre nursery in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. The centre provides employment, training and vocational opportunities for young, severely disabled people in the area. County, district and town councils all provide fi nancial support to develop the gardens. The Trust expands the nursery into an attractive, competitive garden centre combined with a training facility for people with accessibility requirements. Workshops, classrooms and offi ces are added. Commercial plant sales total £2,000.
The Trust holds a small party to celebrate the 100th placement of an employee.
