2001
Following the success of our Personal Adviser Service, Shaw Trust is awarded contracts with a total value of £11 million to deliver the New Deal for Disabled People (NDDP) Job Broking programme. We join a network of Job Brokers including not-for-profi t agencies, private companies and public sector organisations.
Changes in Workstep mean we now aim to support people to move into open employment after two years. The generic wage subsidy is done away with and instead the funding is used for specifi c training and employment support items.
2002
In partnership with the local authorities, Shaw Trust introduces its fi rst Direct Payments project in Bridgend, Neath, Port Talbot and Swansea. This service enables, empowers and assists disabled people and carers to purchase their personal assistance needs in line with the principles of independent living.

2003
We form a partnership with West Midlands Police to provide employment opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged people and ongoing specialist support for police staff who develop a disability or ill-health. A Shaw Trust member of staff is permanently seconded to the force as Disability Partnership Manager.
We celebrate our 21st anniversary with a series of seminars which allow young disabled and disadvantaged people to air their views on disability and the world of work. Representatives from regional events come together in London to provide a keynote speech at a national conference organised by Shaw Trust and sponsored by HSBC.
