About our research

New Research shows Britain's bosses badly under estimate the extent to which employees and fellow managers are suffering from stress, anxiety, depression and other mental ill health.

Independent research, commissioned by Shaw Trust, with the support of its partners was carried out in a cross section of 550 British businesses, to get a clear understanding of how British Industry perceives mental health in the workplace. It also covers what employers need in order to feel able to support and retain valued employees and recruit new ones.

Mental ill-health is costing business more than £9 billion in lost time.
 

  • Nearly three in every ten employees will have a mental health problem in any one year
  • Mental health problems account for the loss of over 91 million working days each year
  • It has been estimated that nearly 10% of the UK's gross national product
