Are You Utilising Your Local Workforce?
5 February 2010
National employment charity, Shaw Trust challenges local employers to fully utilise Basingstoke’s workforce.Employers from across the region are invited to attend an information day at the Basingstoke Office of Shaw Trust on Monday 8 February 2010 to find out how they can recruit job-ready, ambitious and enthusiastic people from the region for their organisation and fully utilise the region’s talent.
Shaw Trust is the UK’s largest third sector provider of employment services to disabled and disadvantaged people. Across Hampshire, Shaw Trust delivers Pathways to Work, a national programme designed to support people out of work - because of disability or ill-health - find and sustain employment.
Joining Shaw Trust will be representatives from Jobcentre Plus and Access to Work giving potential employers the opportunity to find out more about the range of services and support available for businesses and individuals.
“It’s very much a two-way process,” explains Katherine Connor, District Manager for Shaw Trust.
“In the same way that we support our clients back to employment, we work in partnership with local business to ensure they get the right people with the right skills. In this way, companies get the resource in place that is needed and our clients benefit both financially and emotionally from being back in work.”
Since the Pathways to Work contract began in 2008* , Shaw Trust in Hampshire has helped around 7,350 people.
“The programme is proven and we’re looking forward to helping even more people in 2010 but we do need local organisations to work with us,” continued Katherine.
“The service is completely cost-free we have a team of experienced Advisers ready to support both company and candidate find and sustain a suitable placement. This support even continues when the candidate starts work ensuring a successful outcome for both parties.
“We have a plethora of talent and skills in this region which have been identified and honed through our sector specific accredited pre-employment training. Now, we need even more employers to recognise the opportunity and get on board.”
Employers are invited to attend one of two sessions; 10am or 11.30am. Each session will begin with refreshments, a short introduction to Shaw Trust, Job Centre Plus and Access to Work. After which guests are invited to find out more from their hosts and fellow attendees.
