Charity And Chamber Really Mean Business
CHARITY AND CHAMBER REALLY MEAN BUSINESS
NATIONAL employment charity Shaw Trust and the thriving North & Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce really mean business.
The two organisations, which are already working together to help disabled and disadvantaged people to make the break from benefits to employment, are joining forces yet again to provide a unique opportunity.
Shaw Trust is hosting the Chamber's first networking event of 2008 on January 17 at its offices in Tustin Court, Preston Docks.
Thursday's event, which is free to members, will give business people the chance to get to know other companies and build relationships with potential new customers or suppliers.
It will also be a golden opportunity for the Shaw Trust Preston team to showcase the work of the charity, which provides employment services for people disadvantaged in the workplace by disability, ill health or social circumstance.
Shaw Trust Senior Employer Consultant Pauline Butler comments: "We are delighted to host this event for the Chamber, a strong supporter of our work, which involve supporting clients throughout
Lancashire
with a range of services, including job broking.
"This networking event will help us to make contact with employers with whom we can, hopefully, work in the future, by providing work-ready employees and offering on-going support for both the individual and the employer. We also provide a Staying in Work service for managers eager to retain valued staff who have developed a disability or ill health."
Free to Chamber members, the event is also open to non members, at a cost of £10. Further information is available from should call the Chamber on 01772 653000 (www.lancschamber.co.uk) or Shaw Trust on 01772 761210.
The event also caps an exciting week for Shaw Trust. On Monday (January 14) Pauline Butler and seven of her Lancashire colleagues collected NVQ4 Awards for Advice and Guidance in a prestigious ceremony at
Lancaster
University
.
"David McKee, Mike Burrell, Richard Hunt, Lisa Worthington, Andrea Hindle, Carole Anne Jones, Julie Forman and I all completed the NVQ4 award through CETAD (Centre for Training & Development), at Lancaster University," she explained.
Their Shaw Trust manager Carol Ramsay said the qualification underlined the standard of service and support provided by the
Preston
staff. "I'm delighted with their achievement, they worked hard to gain this accreditation," she added.
"It was a very useful exercise in that it helped them learn new skills while clarifying their existing ones and the support from the rest of the team, in terms of performance, has been invaluable."
