Edinburgh Marathon

The Edinburgh Marathon will take place in late May 2011 have now closed, however it is never too early to start thinking about next year.

The Edinburgh Marathon is rated the fastest marathon in the UK by Runners World magazine. The course has an overall elevation drop of 40m which should make it a good course for those looking for a good time or a personal best.

The 2011 route will follow much of the same route as previous years. It will start in the city centre taking in Holyrood Park, Leith Links and Portobello Promenade, it will then go through East Lothian before a grandstand finish in Musselburgh Racecourse.

Shaw Trust will have places in the run available in the run in 2011 to people willing to raise £750 towards our vital work. Every runner will receive a fundraising pack, running vest, and all the support they need to achieve their fundraising target and make a big difference to the lives of disabled and disadvantaged people.

People like Bob, who was originally from Edinburgh but now lives in the Borders.  After coming to terms with his illness he managed to find himself a new job, but it was at this point he needed our support.  "As a result of my parkinsons my output was low, tasks taking me longer than expected, and I seemed to be working at only 75% capacity. A bit of research suggested that Shaw Trust may be able to help by using their government funded Workstep scheme. This offered a financial subsidy to the Thistle Foundation to retain me in work, safeguarding my employment, and removing concerns over my efficiency."

To help us reach out and support even more people like Bob, phone James on 01225 716358 or email james.byron@shaw-trust.org.uk to reserve a place.
