Hurlingham Charity Cricket Match
On Wednesday 29th July Employment Opportunities and Shaw Trust held a charity cricket match in the glorious sunshine, at the prestigious Hurlingham Club, near Putney Bridge, London. All of the proceeds from the event went towards the valuable work of our Employer and Graduate Services team. Their work supports disabled students and graduates to achieve their career potential through advice, coaching, and work experience placements.Guests on the day included top people from the City and businesses, liverymen and other key partners and supporters.
The event began with a drinks reception and networking opportunity, Karin Pappenheim, CEO of Employment Opportunities, opened the event by welcoming guests and thanking sponsors for their support.
The match began with Beckles X1 batting. An exciting start, compered by Nick Hutchings of Redhill Radio, with Beckles X1 scoring 298 runs from 40overs with Raul Pander scoring 127 not out. A notable contribution in the innings was from David Banks who scored 54. Nick Lawrence was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 48 from 8 overs. The Beckles X1 batsmen were said to ‘produce mayhem with delightful aggression and control!’
With such a fast and furious start lunch was a welcome break! A delicious lunch was followed by some inspirational words from James Gower - an Employer and Graduate Services client. The auction and raffle followed, conducted by Charity Auctioneer, Nick Bonham. Among the fantastic auction and raffle prizes were weekend breaks, dinner at top restaurants and signed cricket memorabilia.
After lunch the match resumed while world renowned magician Jamie Raven wowed crowds with his blend of magic and mind trickery. The second part of the match proved to be equally as tense with Andrew Elliott X1 bowled out for 213. It was death or glory and Beckles X1 took the match by 75 runs. The pick of the days bowlers were Raul Pander with 4 wickets for 30 runs from 6 overs, and Rawle Beckles with 2 wickets for 3 runs from 4 overs.
