Liberated Shaw Trust Team Gets Closer To The Community
9 May 2008
WILTSHIRE-based national charity Shaw Trust is liberating its local team to work in the heart of the community it serves.
After a thorough review of the Wiltshire delivery, Operations Manager Julie Cable is closing the office in The Maltings in Salisbury to reach even more people on their own doorsteps.
"I worked as a Personal Advisor myself for over eight years and I know that the service is best delivered direct to the individual in the community where they live, not sat behind a desk in an office that can be some way away from people in a rural area," said Julie, who lives in Kennet and has served Wiltshire ever since she joined employment charity Shaw Trust in 2004.
"All the Support Officers are delighted to be given the opportunity to work alongside our many partner organisations, offering their usual one to one, tailored service but with the added advantage of taking it to the client, as we do in many other Shaw Trust areas.
"We know the move will also help us to reach people who otherwise wouldn't want to access an office-based service."
Shaw Trust, which helps disabled and disadvantaged people achieve work and independence, worked with over 60,000 people last year on projects ranging from supporting people on Incapacity Benefits into work and alternatives to daycare, to the Young People's Services and Staying in Work, which helps employers retain staff who develop ill health or a disability.
In the South Wiltshire area alone, Shaw Trust has delivered a variety of services from its Salisbury office base and supported more than 800 people into further training, personal development and employment in the last five years.
"The office served its purpose in getting our name known, but it's time to move on," added Julie.
"We constantly review our services, listening to what clients want and adapting to suit their needs. Shaw Trust believes that everyone has the right to work and independence, and our clients deserve the best service we can provide, which means going out there into the community where they live."
