Life work balance

Shaw Trust employees benefit from a number of initiatives to help balance life outside of work.

Childcare Vouchers
Shaw Trust works with a leading childcare organisations to provide you with the option of purchasing Childcare Vouchers. This is a flexible and cost-effective solution that can save you up to the cost of five months’ childcare per annum. Vouchers can be purchased from your first month of employment with the Trust.

Enhanced Maternity and Adoption Pay
The Trust’s benefits are in excess of the basic statutory provisions for maternity and adoption pay. We offer enhanced maternity and adoption pay for employees with more than 2 years continuous service.

Enhanced Paternity Leave
Shaw Trust exceed the statutory minimum by allowing an employee whose partner has had a baby/or adopted a baby 2 weeks of paternity leave with full pay. There is no length of service required in order to be eligible for this benefit.

Enhanced Annual Leave
Full-time employees are entitled to 25 days annual leave (pro-rata if part-time) and, to reward loyalty, this entitlement rises for employees with 5 years service by 2 days and after 10 years service by an additional 1 day. In addition to this, under the Trust’s Flexible Benefits Scheme, employees have the option of purchasing up to one week’s additional holiday or trading up to one week’s existing holiday against other benefits or choose to receive the cash instead.

Christmas Leave
With the exception of Retail, Shaw Trust closes for business between Christmas and New Year – this is given as additional leave. Where employees are required to provide cover during this time, time off in lieu may be granted in agreement with the line manager.

Parental Leave
An employee, with at least one year’s service, is entitled to 13 weeks unpaid parental leave for children under the age of 5 years or 18 weeks unpaid parental leave for disabled children up to the age of 18 years. This leave is available for a maximum period of four weeks per annum and can be used to help you to spend more time with your child and strike a better balance between your work and family commitments.

Family Emergency Leave
In cases of serious illness within the family or an unexpected domestic crisis employees may request to take up to 1 week’s discretionary absence with pay in any 12 month period. The purpose of this leave is to enable employees to make arrangements to deal with any ongoing family or domestic crisis. At the discretion of the line manger, additional time off without pay may also be considered in certain circumstances.

Bereavement
Shaw Trust recognises that bereavement of a relative, partner, dependent or close friend affects every individual differently. The personal circumstances surrounding such an event will be taken into account by the line manager and time off granted with pay as appropriate.

Moving House Leave
Shaw Trust provides employees with one day’s paid leave for moving house (or other accommodation) available for up to a maximum of once per holiday year.

Life Work Balance Policy
Whilst Shaw Trust recognises and values the passion and commitment of staff, working longer and longer hours is not good for the Trust or its employees. The Trust’s Life Work Balance Policy is not just about families and childcare, nor is it about working less. It’s about striking the right balance between what can be achieved at work and at home; and encouraging staff to be fresh enough to give their best to all areas of their life, throughout their life.

Shopping Discounts
Shaw Trust employees can access a variety of special offers and discounts with a wide range of leading brands.
