Member Of Shaw Trust Staff - Nik Brooks

20 December 2007

Inspirational Nik Brooks was crowned as the National Member of Staff STAR Awards winner and couldn't believe his ears when it was announced.

After struggling with Bi-polar disorder for several years, Nik decided to end it all and walked in front of an express train. After the accident Nik had to have his legs amputated and faced a long 12 year struggle to put his life back together. He's now a happy father of two who has dedicated his life to helping others.

Nik joined Shaw Trust as a client, moved onto become a volunteer, got his first paid job in 12 years as a mentor and is now an inspirational trainer who is an exceptional role model for clients.

"To win two STAR Awards is a privilege and it's typical of Shaw Trust to take time to publicly congratulate their clients, staff and supporters. I feel revitalised and even more determined and motivated," he said.

"But the real reward is seeing the changes in, and the progress made, by the clients I work with. There is really no feeling like it."
