Mentoring Project – Lancashire and Greater Merseyside

What are we offering?

We can provide Employers with free training to develop their existing staff’s Mentoring Skills.

How is it Funded?

This project is funded by ESF so there is no cost to the Employer as long as staff are eligible. Eligible staff will:

  • Be aged 16+
  • Live or work in Lancashire or Greater Merseyside
  • Volunteer staff may also be able to benefit from free training

How is the Training delivered?

The training is delivered by a qualified member of Shaw Trust staff, either in your workplace or at a venue agreed with you in a format that fits in with your business needs. The training is delivered on a group basis.

What does the Training cover?

Role and Responsibilities of the Mentor

This enables participants to clarify their role as a mentor to ensure understanding of what it is and isn’t and to establish the benefits and potential uses of mentoring within the organisation.

Developing Mentoring Skills

This Includes defining boundaries and using effective communication skills to establish the relationship, including:

  • Questioning, listening, feedback, motivation, developing confidence, negotiation and confidentiality.

Demonstrating Skills in Mentoring

Includes describing the setting in which Mentoring will take place, outlining resources and documentation and carrying out mentoring sessions.

Is there a limit to the number of staff to be trained?

We work with between six and 12 people per course, however we can run more than one course for you if you have the demand, or if you have less than six it may be possible to run a joint course with other employers in your area.

Duration of Training

As the training is tailored to meet your staff’s requirements it can be up to a maximum of 10 days but in many instances takes between 5 – 7 days.

What level is the Training?

The Training is at Level Two, (we can convert the training given to a nationally recognised, accredited qualification but for this there is a small charge of £48 per participant to cover the registration fee and certificate). To do the non-accredited training there is no charge and no commitment to undertake any further training.

What is the catch?

There is no catch, we deliver what we say we will deliver to a high standard and in a professional manner.  This training can support employers to reduce stress-related absences, improve motivation and improve staff retention rates along with performance.
