New Deal for Disabled People

New Deal for Disabled People (NDDP) can help you move from Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Incapacity and sickness related benefits, into paid employment..

What support is available?

If you are eligible for NDDP you will work with your Adviser  on a one-to-one basis to help you with:
  • motivational and confidence training
  • advice and financial support to help with training and childcare costs
  • pre-employment activities such as CV writing, job applications and interview training
  • job specific training and work trials
  • accessing benefit protection and advice on working tax credits along with arranging a 'better off in work' calculation to show the financial merits of being in employment.
  • a range of health support services to help you manage your health condition.
Subject to eligibility, we will also give you a Job Start Grant starting from £200.

Who is eligible?

People receiving one or more of the following benefits are eligible:
  • Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) 
  • Incapacity Benefit
  • Severe Disablement Allowance
  • Income Support including a disability premium
  • Income Support because your Incapacity Benefit has been stopped and you're appealing against the decision
  • National Insurance credits because of incapacity (you may get these on their own or with Income Support, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit or War Pension)
  • Disability Living Allowance, provided that you don't get Jobseeker's Allowance and are not in paid work for 16 hours or more a week
  • Housing Benefit with a disability premium, provided that you're not getting Jobseeker's Allowance and are not in paid work for 16 hours or more a week
  • Council Tax Benefit, provided that you don't get Jobseeker's Allowance and are not in paid work for 16 hours or more a week
  • War Pension with an Unemployability Supplement
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit with an Unemployability Supplement
  • A benefit equivalent to Incapacity Benefit from an European Union (EU) member country
