New direction for Rick who is gaining qualifications

49 year client at Shaw Trust's Barking and Dagenham project, who had a nervous breakdown and first came to the Trust two years ago, has discovered that the kind of opportunities Shaw Trust provides are not just life-enhancing but life-changing.

"Shaw Trust has done so much for me. I was at a drop in centre before I came here and I was just getting worse and worse," said Rick, who was in charge of an airport catering operation for 14 years before his breakdown.

"When I first came to the Trust I couldn't do anything on my own couldn't go out, could barely get out of bed, but coming here got me back into the real world.

"I never thought I'd work again. I thought my working life was finished and no-one would want me," said Rick who works in the project office three times a week and is taking a variety of Learn Direct courses.

"I'm gaining qualifications working at my own pace with lots of support and feel I've found a new direction in my life," he said.
