Summary
Shaw Trust's work is about enabling disabled and disadvantaged people to live more independent lives. Helping people into employment is a part of this. We also offer support to people who want more choice and flexibility in the care services they use because we agree that services should fit the person, not the other way round.
This is where our Direct Payments service comes in, working closely with local authorities to provide support to people to employ their own personal assistants, buy support from local care agencies and other providers such as day care or respite centres.
We require a Support Officer to provide a support and advice service for disabled people receiving or wanting to receive Direct Payments in Newham.
This role involves working with disabled people to enable them to be in control of their personal assistance needs and empower them to become good employers.
To succeed in this role, you will have an understanding of the importance in recognising the different needs of people and the provision of a service with equality of access. You will possess good organisational and time management skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to negotiate at all levels. A willingness and ability to undertake frequent travel in the local area is essential.
This position will be subject to an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure.
