Summary
The Shaw Trust, the UK's leading voluntary sector provider of employment services for disabled and disadvantaged people, requires a Development Officer to work on a new project supporting offenders with learning disabilities return to work.
About the role:
You will work with individuals in receipt of Probation Service support to ascertain their employment and training needs and put together "back to work" plans and conduct regular reviews of their progress.
You will build relationships with training and education bodies and employers, coordinating work placements and supporting job search and learning activities. You will also liaise with the Probation Service and other relevant bodies as appropriate to produce a holistic, client-centred approach.
About you:
Your track record in a recruitment/training field combined with experience working with disadvantaged young people or adults will enable you to assess individuals and identify relevant employment opportunities. Your motivation and persuasion skills combined with an innovative, flexible approach will enable you to successfully reduce barriers for disadvantaged people entering and maintaining work.
Your positive attitude towards disability, substance abuse and other social and employment related issues will enable you to respond appropriately to a variety of situations and solve problems in a calm, non judgemental manner.
Your understanding of how the Probation Service works and your networking skills will enable you to forge productive relationships with relevant bodies and employers, so that you are able to produce positive outcomes for clients.
Location and travel
You will be covering the West Midlands area therefore you will be required to undertake frequent travel in the region and stay away from home occasionally.
This is a fixed term contract until March 2010 and is full time (36.5 hours per week)
