Moving Upstream is a trail-blazing project which works by facilitating close relationships between primary care deliverers and voluntary sector agencies to address some of the contributors to mental ill health, such as housing problems, low self esteem and unemployment.
It was launched by pro-active North Shields GP Dr Dave Tomson in 2002, and has gathered pace by becoming a constituted group, which can get outside funding for initiatives to get primary carers and the Moving Upstream partner agencies working ever closer together.
Michael McLean, Chairman from Mind in
Dr Tomson added: "I am delighted that we were recognised in this way, and also pleased that the resulting publicity will give us the opportunity to spread the word about Moving Upstream, locally and nationally."
