Yeovil and Tesco welcome new Shaw Trust store

18 February 2008

Shaw Trust reveals its new charity store in Yeovil on Thursday, February 21st, 2008, and launches an exciting new link with retail giant Tesco. The national charity's Head of Retail Nick Mason performs the official opening. Your photographer and reporters are most welcome to join us at 10.30am at the shop at  Unit 1, Tesco Extra, Huish, Yeovil, Somerset, BA20 1DlL.

NATIONAL charity Shaw Trust's newest shop in Yeovil will make history when it opens on Thursday (February 21).

Their 35th store will get the added boost of a link with supermarket giant Tesco, which already has a trail-blazing national Service Level Agreement with the charity, which has led to hundreds of jobs for disabled and disadvantaged people.

Now Shaw Trust has forged a new link with Tesco by opening its latest store in Unit 1 above the Tesco Extra store, in Huish, and right next to its busy café.

"It's the first time we've tied up with Tesco to go into one of their units, so it is an exciting move for us," says Shaw Trust's Head of Sales Tessa Lancaster.

"Our stores are usually sited on the high street. This one has the Tesco Superstore downstairs, and their café right next door. Customers won't be able to miss us."

The latest link with Shaw Trust has also been welcomed by Melanie Chiswell, Tesco's Corporate Affairs Manager, South West.

"We are delighted that our successful relationship is developing further in the form of the new Shaw Trust store opening so close to Tesco Extra, in Yeovil, and we wish them every success," she said.

Shaw Trust's Retail Director Nick Mason will perform the grand ribbon cutting ceremony at the balloon-festooned store and customers calling in to join in the fun will also receive a voucher for £1 off any purchase.

The shop's key role will be to raise money and boost awareness of the work of Shaw Trust, which provides support and employment services for people disadvantaged by disability, ill health or social circumstances.

Tessa is urging local people to donate clothing, and bric-a-brac, books and household linen for sale, or to volunteer to help run it. "It takes over 200,000 sacks of donations per year to stock our shops, so we constantly need donations of clothes, accessories, bric-a-brac, books, household linen etc," she explained.

Items can be left at the shop, which will be open from 9am until 6pm Monday to Saturday and 10am-4pm on Sundays.
