Theresa May MP opened a new Shaw Trust charity shop at 25 High Street, Maidenhead on Friday 26th November 2004.
National disability charity, Shaw Trust, provides training and work opportunities for over 35,000 disabled and disadvantaged people across the UK each year. This latest shop is the third in Berkshire, the other two being in Pangbourne and Hungerford and gives the Trust a total of twenty seven throughout the South, Midlands and Wales.
Theresa May MP said, "I am delighted to be able to launch the new Shaw Trust shop here in Maidenhead. I have long admired the excellent work that the Trust has done with disabled people in our community. The support they offer to disadvantaged people not only gives them employment and an income, but independence and a sense of self worth. Shaw Trust are really making a difference to the quality of peoples lives, and I urge everyone to support them, be that volunteering, donating, or just dropping into the shop to pick up a bargain".
Tessa Lancaster added, "Our new shop in Maidenhead is an exciting opportunity for us and we're hoping that it will generate an important source of income for the Trust enabling it to work with more disabled and disadvantaged people across the region. We're new to Maidenhead and we'd be delighted to hear from local people who want to know more about our work and or are interested to join our team of volunteers.
The new Maidenhead Shaw Trust shop offers so many ways of making a difference. Simply by shopping, donating goods, or volunteering even a couple of hours of your time, people can make a valuable contribution to enabling a disabled person turn their lives around.
