WINNING a prestigious national prize for doing something he enjoys was the icing on the cake for dedicated Dunfermline volunteer Mark McAuley.

MS sufferer Mark wasn't well enough to travel to London for the Awards ceremony, but he couldn't be more thrilled to be named by Shaw Trust as the UK's top volunteer.

He spends two days a week at the project and insists he is just part of a team who all contribute equally and that he never expected any special recognition, as the experience has been reward enough.

"I was really surprised in fact gob-smacked - and delighted to receive the national award. As with the regional one, it was totally unexpected and I am overwhelmed," said Mark, who has been volunteering at Shaw Trust's Dunfermline project for the past five years.
