Wednesday 13th June saw the first of the STAR Awards events for 2007 begin. The 2007 STAR Awards also mark our 25th anniversary as, for the first time, we are holding six regional events, from which the winners will go forward to our national STAR Awards in November.

Scotland were the hosts for our first regional event and Thomas Moan, Director for Scotland and Ian Bruce, Regional Employment Manager highlighted the many successes and achievements of the clients, staff, mentors, volunteers, employers and partner organisations who were in attendance at the awards held at Murrayfield Stadium.

TV sporting and pop celebrity Dougie Vipond presented the tophies at the ceremony and commented, "It was great to be part of an event that marked some incredible achievements, the clients' success stories are truly inspirational".

The winners, chosen from almost 50 shortlisted nominees, at Scotland's first ever STAR Awards were:

National Employer Award: Sky Services, Dunfermline.

Local Employer: Edinburgh Zoo.

Partner Organisation: Business Able, Glasgow & Edinburgh.

Workplace Mentor: Margot Swanston, Peebles 

Volounteer: Mark McAuley, Dunfermline.

Shaw Trust Member of Staff: Henrietta Black, Motherwell.

Individual Achievement: Nujima Baber, Glasgow (Rising to the Challenge Award); George Clark, Cowdenbeath (Positive Progression Award).

Special Recognition Award: In Memory of Peter Russell, Dunfermline Project.

The winners will go forward to take part in the Trust's forth annual national Star Awards final in London in November.
