28 June 2007

Wednesday 27th June saw the second of six Regional STAR Awards for 2007. The 2007 STAR Awards also mark our 25th anniversary and as such, winners of each of our Regional Awards, automatically go forward to the national STAR Awards ceremony due to take place on 27th November in London.

The North West and Yorkshire event was hosted by Tim Cooper, Shaw Trust's Managing Director of Work and Indepence and Ann Seddon, Regional Employment Manager for the North West.  Tim and Ann highlighted the many successes and achievements of clients, staff, mentors, volunteers, employers and partner organisations who were in attendance at the awards held at the Holiday Inn near Manchester Airport.

Actor Dean Sullivan who is remembered for his portrayal of Brookside's Jimmy Corkhill, and is now heading up 'Employ 2008' which aims to promote sustained employment in Merseyside through a busy employer engagement project was on hand to present the awards to our well deserved winners.  A long term supporter of Shaw Trust, Dean said:  "I'd like to add my congratulations to everyone who has been nominated for a STAR Award, everyone has achieved extraordinary things to overcome adversity and break down barriers to succeed."
