13 September 2007

Thursday 13th September saw the fifth of the STAR Awards events for 2007. This year's STAR Awards also mark our 25th anniversary as, for the first time, we are holding six regional events, from which the winners will go forward to our national STAR Awards in November.

The London, South East & East Anglia area were the hosts for this regional event and Judy Weir, Director Work Skills & Independence (South & Wales) and Sue Rozelaar,  Regional Employment Manager highlighted the many successes and achievements of the clients, staff, mentors, volunteers, employers and partner organisations who were in attendance at the awards held in London.

Blind Speed Skiing World Record holder Kevin Alderton and David Morris, Senior Advisor on disability and Deaf equality to the Mayor of London were on hand to present the awards to the worthy winners at Londons' Millennium Gloucester Hotel.

"I know what it's like to face barriers, and I appreciate what it takes to knock them out of the way," says Dartford 's double world record holder Kevin, a former Grenadier Guards Platoon Sergeant who lost his sight in a 1998 street attack.

"I am delighted to be part of a special event to honour the achievements of people who have had their own battles with what life has thrown at them, and to support the Trust which does such great work in supporting and motivating them."

The winners, chosen from over 50 shortlisted nominees, at London, South East & East Anglia's first ever STAR Awards were:
