Our research strategy

Shaw Trust has a strategy of working in partnership with academic and other organisations to undertake research to provide evidence for our position in the field of employment and training for disabled and disadvantaged people.
 

Our current research

We are currently involved in the following research:
 
The role of specialist interventions in facilitating the transition from learning to work for young disabled people: what works?
Research organisation: University of Wales College of Medicine Welsh Centre for Learning Disabilities
Summary: This research over three years aims to investigate various intervention packages and programmes to determine their success in helping young people with learning disabilities to enter good quality employment from school.
Supported by: Big Lottery Fund Research Grants

Social inclusion through employment support for adults with mental illness (SESAMI): what works for whom in what contexts?
Research organisations: Durham University, City University, Anglia University and Nottingham University
Summary: Focused on supported employment for people with severe and enduring mental health issues, this study is evaluating the effectiveness of approaches to service delivery, and measuring the costs to individuals, providers, employers and the taxpayer.  See the SESAMI website.

An evaluation of two co-operative employment programmes for people with enduring mental health problems and their impact on the use of health and social services resources
Research organisation: University of Nottingham
Summary: The purpose of this study is to evaluate two co-operative employment projects for people with mental health problems, and examine the relationship between the employment projects and the health and social functioning of the members with mental health problems.
