Romford, Barking and Dagenham mental health project
Supporting people with moderate to severe and enduring mental ill health conditions.
Our mental health project has helped to change the lives of hundreds of people in the Romford, Barking, Dagenham and Havering areas.
The project provides training and work opportunities in a supported environment, to help build confidence and self-esteem, together with the developing the skills required to move into further education or employment.
High standards
Based in Romford, the project has a state-of-the-art IT suite, a professional standard catering kitchen, all offering a range of accredited training which lead on to college courses or employment.Shaw Trust Regional Manager, Simon Leadbeater, says: "This project is made up of a dedicated team who can help you in ways best suited to meet your needs and aspirations".
Helping more people
The project has grown since Shaw Trust took over a number of years ago. Over 150 people now attend a range of training and work projects each week, developing skills and maximising employability – with many then moving on into education, work experience or employment. Each person has an individual learning plan that is regularly reviewed and ongoing support is provided by Shaw Trust staff.
A wide variety of training is available, including:
- IT and office skills
- Personal development and confidence building
- Horticulture
- Catering
- Arts & crafts
- Numeracy and Literacy
- Introduction into Care
We also have Jaspreet Mann, who is our Employment and Placement Officer. She can help you not only with CV writing, interviewing techniques and job searching but also arrange for a 12 week work placement which is fully supported by a Job Coach which will help create a smooth transition into the world of work.
We also work closely with a number of local organisations in order to offer the most flexible and varied solutions for our clients. For example, we work in partnership with Havering College where, having provided a large glasshouse on site, horticulture courses are run by both College and Shaw Trust staff.
The project is funded by Havering Primary Care Trust and Barking & Dagenham Primary Care Trust.
