Services for Commissioners

Shaw Trust helps people who are disadvantaged or disabled to achieve a more self reliant and rewarding life with our services for your community.

We work within local communities to help agencies to realise their work goals for the disabled or disadvantaged. We understand the issues people face and our client-focused approach delivers long-term results, providing genuine social return on your investments.

We’re structured and managed to deliver not only central government projects, but also to meet the varied needs of local and regional commissioners in providing essential services. We are experts at understanding the complex issues and barriers that disabled or disadvantaged people face, and we deliver services that focus on work whilst supporting issues such as mental health, learning, and the rehabilitation of ex-offenders.

Our research shows that over 80% of the barriers our clients face, including repeat offending or substance misuse, are connected with the circumstances in which they live, yet conventional services apply only 20% of their effort to this problem. We don’t fall into this trap.

All of our services are aimed at achieving progression and sustainability – they are not quick fixes.

Our services

We help families

We support clients and their families who are experiencing challenges related to repeat offending and substance abuse. By building trust, acting as advocates and
developing links within their community, we support learning and progression towards work.

 We help local communities

We work with local authorities to provide alternative day care, as well as workrelated support such as confidence building or life skills, training for people who need long-term and specialist support to become more independent. We help people take control of their lives.

We support local people to make choices about how public services are provided in their community. This allows them to employ their own personal assistants – to help with shopping, or getting out and about. These services are provided under contract to local government via our Direct Payment and Individual Budgets services and through the Local Involvement Networks (LINks) programme. We also offer assistance with managing finances and payroll and access to local support groups.

We help people find work

Help from our employment services might include advice about careers, finance and benefits, work-related training, help finding and applying for jobs and on-going in-work support.

We help people stay at work

We offer a range of services to help people stay motivated in their jobs. We provide coaching, mentoring and guidance and offer Absence Management and Condition Management Programmes to help those with ill-health and the long-term sick to get back to work.

We help people gain qualifications

Training can help people find employment and to feel independent and included. We deliver specialised training programmes via contracts funded by the Skills Funding Agency, Local Authorities/ Young People’s Learning Agency, Dells and Scottish Enterprise.

 We set up social enterprises

Based in the heart of communities, our social enterprises provide employment for people who find it difficult to settle into the workplace. Through training, development and work opportunities, they have a chance to flourish. Our social enterprises include recycling and horticultural schemes.

We help employers too

Through tailored recruitment we help employers in the public, private and third sectors to recruit, manage and retain a fulfilled and diverse workforce.

‘The selection process is very user-friendly and allows us to match against our vacancies very well . The success rate is much higher and the pre-interview reports are excellent.’
(Store Personnel Manager, Derby, Morrisons)
