Shaw Trust Appoints New Chief Executive

7 September 2009

Sally Burton joins from NHS

National employment charity Shaw Trust have announced the appointment of its new Chief Executive.

Sally Burton, who joins the Trust in November, is currently on secondment from Solihull NHS Care Trust, leading a Programme of Independent Case Note Reviews for families in Mid Staffordshire. Sally was the first Chief Executive of Solihull Care Trust which brings together health and social care. She has over 25 years experience working in the public sector and her previous experience includes working for 12 years in social services in Birmingham and five years as a civil servant with the Department of Health.

Sally also worked as Head of Older Peoples Services for Coventry City Council. She was part of the team that improved adult services from special measures to three stars.

Sally’s experience includes creating social enterprises, partnership working across sectors, change management, and leading organisations with complex governance and performance systems.

Sally comments: “I am delighted to be joining Shaw Trust and am looking forward to the challenges ahead. I believe that my experience in the public sector will bring new skills to the Trust which will help us further extend the level and range of services and enhance our position as the largest third sector provider of employment programmes to disabled and disadvantaged people.”

There will be a short handover period with Tim Papé, Shaw Trust’s outgoing Director General. Following this handover, in recognition of his work in founding and developing Shaw Trust, Tim will become President. This is an honorary position.

John Briffitt, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Shaw Trust comments: “Sally brings to Shaw Trust a wealth of experience with which to lead Shaw Trust into its next stage of development. The Board of Trustees and Executive team look forward to welcoming her on board.”
