Shaw Trust's International Work

Although we are the UK’s largest third sector provider of employment opportunities for disabled and disadvantaged people, Shaw Trust's charitable mission is global in scope. Shaw Trust’s international operations and partnerships have grown as a result of our consistent high performance and approach to finding unique and innovative employment solutions for the people we work with.

In addition to our work across the UK, we also currently operate in the following countries:

Integracja in Poland. We have had a strong partnership with Integracja since 2007. Integracja’s mission is to promote social integration of disabled people based on coexistence, cooperation and partnership in all areas of their lives. Working with Shaw Trust, Integracja aim to give disabled people the tools they need to become socially integrated; to gain new skills and the chance to lead a more full life.

Motivation in Romania. We have been working in Romania since 2008. Motivation provide support services for both children and adults with disabilities; from adaptive equipment for different types of motor disabilities to medical rehabilitation and independent life skills. The Shaw Trust - Motivation Romania partnership aims to contribute to the personal and professional development of people with disabilities, with a focus on offering opportunities for social integration and employment through the development of specialised services.

In September 2009 Shaw Trust merged with Interwork, an Australian employment charity. Interwork is a long established and respected welfare to work provider and the largest specialist disability employment agency in South Australia. Australian disability and mainstream employment programmes are the closest to the UK model than anywhere else in the world and around 4.5 million people in Australia are classified as having some form of disability or face considerable disadvantage in finding employment.

This is an exciting opportunity to share and develop experience and best practice in supporting disabled and disadvantaged people in employment internationally. For further information see our news and events page.

Shaw Trust is also a member of several international networks including:

Workability Europe and Workability International

Workability Europe
(WE) is a European not-for-profit NGO and the largest employer body representing providers of work and employment services to people with disabilities in Europe. It is based in Brussels and is a representative and liaising body for its members in dealing with the European Commission, the European Parliament and other EU Institutions. WE has more than 40 member organisations located across 25 European countries. The growing membership provides work programmes for over 1,500,000 disabled people a year.

Workability International is the world's largest body representing providers of work and employment services to people with disabilities, acting as a focus and voice for providers of disability employment services throughout the world who offer direct employment and work for people with disabilities in service and manufacturing processes and/or employment services to people with disabilities to access, obtain and sustain work and employment in labour markets in conjunction with employers. More than three million people with disabilities are engaged in work programmes; accessing employment and work, delivered by our 135 member organisations in some 41 countries.

Rehabilitation International. RI is a global network of experts, professionals and advocates working together to empower persons with disabilities and provide sustainable solutions for a more inclusive and accessible society. Founded in 1922, RI has been a key player in the disability field and developed the International Symbol of Access – which has now become the most widely recognised symbol for disability worldwide.

Shaw Trust is continuing to grow its international connections and partnerships to empower more and more disabled people across the world to find and retain employment.
