9 December 2011
Shaw Trust has opened a café at Upminster Crematorium.'The Tea Room' was opened by the Mayor of Havering on 8 December.Shaw Trust will employ disabled and disadvantaged people to staff the tea room, preparing refreshments and serving customers. The café will be run as a social enterprise. The charity already runs a horticulture project at the crematorium.
Alison Adams, Programme Manager for Shaw Trust, said: ‘we’re delighted that the Mayor will be opening our tea room. Disabled people are almost twice as likely to be unemployed as non-disabled people, and this social enterprise offers opportunities to our service users that will give them valuable job skills and help them on the road to independence.”
