Volunteering for Shaw Trust
The need for Shaw Trust's services is growing. Volunteers help us achieve our aim of empowering disabled and disadvantaged people, and supporting them towards employment. Our volunteers add value to all our services and get something back at the same time.
If you are interested in volunteering get in touch...
Let us know you're interest in sharing skills and experience with our clients in your local Shaw Trust project or centre, by completing our online volunteer application form. [opens in new window] You can also contact us by e-mailing email@example.com or alternatively call 0300 247 2222 for further information.
How can you help?
Our volunteers help us in a range of ways, sharing their skills and experience with our clients.
We are looking for volunteers to help us by:
- mentoring or coaching people who need an extra helping hand and/or a boost to their confidence
- providing practical advice based on your own career experiences or knowledge of a particular activity, and
- supporting the running of one of our charity shops.
This list is not exhaustive and we are always interested to hear from
potential volunteers or companies about skills they would like to share with Shaw Trust and our clients.
Whether you’re a retired teacher who wants to help support those with basic literacy or numeracy levels, an HR professional wanting to help build confidence in those who are looking for employment, or a tradesman who wants to help people learn new skills, as a volunteer with Shaw Trust you will make a real difference to people’s futures.
Commitment, reliability, enthusiasm and a genuine desire to help others are the qualities we are looking for, and of course, the time to be able to support us on a regular basis.
If you are volunteering in a role where you are working with clients, you will need to undergo a criminal records check, which Shaw Trust will organise alongside two references. Further information can be found on the DBS website (link opens new window) or Disclosure Scotland website (link opens new window).
What we offer
Volunteering is fulfilling and enjoyable. You'll have the company of like-minded people, make new friends, and develop your skills, as well as helping us to achieve our goals and empower other people.
We will provide you with a thorough induction and any training you need through our own in-house training programmes, as well as ongoing support and supervision.
We also offer work experience opportunities in our charity shops and short term placements in several other projects, which are a great way to pick up new skills and experience. Work experience can enhance your employability, increase your confidence and help you to acquire new skills. You'll be given all the encouragement and support you need.
To volunteer or enquire about work experience in one of our charity shops you can either telephone or visit your nearest shop and ask to speak to the manager about any opportunities. Alternatively call Retail Operations on 01225 716345.
To find your nearest shop please see our charity shops.
For work experience enquiries, please contact your local project or office.
