Take Hold of Your Future With Employment Charity Shaw Trust

15 September 2010

Local people from Tameside are invited to Shaw Trust’s Community Fair on Friday 17th September, where they will find a range of support and advice to further their training and employment opportunities. The FREE event, which will have lots of fun and interactive activities, is taking place at 221 Old Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, from 10am – 2pm.

As well as employment related support and advice; visitors will also have the opportunity to join in all sorts of fun and well-being activities, such as: alternative treatments, massages and tarot reading. Face painting and an ice-cream van will be available for the young ones, as well as a raffle with lots of exciting prizes - including a car -and free refreshments for all.

In terms of employment related activity, Shaw Trust Community Advisors and exhibitors will be on-hand giving careers and training advice, highlighting local support services, benefit and debt advice, as well as networking opportunities with local employers.

Anne Seddon, Shaw Trust District Manager, says: “This is a great opportunity for the people of Tameside to come along and find out about the different facilities and support available to them in their local area, and in particular to discover how Shaw Trust can help them in finding training and employment opportunities or in returning to work.”

“We understand that looking for employment and getting back to work can be a difficult process, so we want to make this a fun day for all the family, giving everyone the opportunity to relax and find out more about themselves, as well as the different training and employment opportunities open to them."

Anne continues: “We are particularly looking forward to welcoming the Civic Mayor of Tameside, Councillor Jean Brazil, who will be attending the event to show her support of the services offered by local providers of employment and training services in Tameside."

Shaw Trust is already helping people in the local area:
37-year-old Antonio from Ashton, first came to Shaw Trust three years ago, and has since turned his life around.

Antonio had inherited a business from his father, however, due to personal pressures mixed with the pressure of running a new business, things started to get on top of him.

Shaw Trust stepped in, and working closely with Antonio, put him in touch with local support services such as Condition Management Programme which helped him personally, and local partner INBIZ which gave him business support. Together with these different organisations, Antonio managed to get back to running his business, Tony’s Mr Whippy, selling ice-cream.

Says Antonio: “Shaw Trust really helped me sort through my personal and work issues. I’m now enjoying a really successful business, and I make sure I go back and visit the Shaw Trust team regularly to up-date them on how well things are going."
