The benefits of supporting people with cancer back into work

16 December 2011

Shaw Trust Case Manager Richard Hunt, who is helping cancer patients at the Christie Hospital in Manchester return to, or retain, employment, has shared his learnings in a publication by Macmillan Cancer.

Vocational Rehabilitation aims to ensure that people who have been diagnosed with diseases like cancer get the information, advice and support they need to stay in, or return to the workplace, in a way that aids rather than risks ongoing recovery. Richard explains that it can be argued that Vocational Rehabilitation should be an integral part of a clinician’s practice, especially with the vast amount of evidence that shows good work is good for health.

The publication also includes case studies, research and links to further reading.  Please contact Gareth Nicolson for more details.
