What support could I receive?

Shaw Trust's approach puts you at the centre. We have a team of friendly, professional Employment Advisers who are all dedicated to providing you with the tailored, personal support you need.

Your Employment Adviser will work  with you to provide support and help you find a job that suits you. We will help you with your personalised action plan that includes a clear job goal and detail the steps that will help you reach your goal.

Support varies from programme to programme and according to your needs, but can include:

Financial advice and guidance

  • we can show you how you may benefit financially from being in a particular job
  • check to see if you can receive top up money when you start work, including Tax Credits and Return to Work Credits
  • help you to access any financial support available to cover work related costs i.e. transport and child care.

Training

  • access to employment related training courses, to develop or update your skills and enhance your employability
  • help to develop confidence and prepare you for work by providing you with access to motivational training courses such as Gaining Objectives and Learning Skills (GOALS).

Careers advice

Choosing a job that's right for you is very important. We will talk about your work options, your skills and the help that is available to tackle some of the practical obstacles that you may come across at work.  We will also give you realistic guidance on your local jobs market and the types of work that are available in your area.

Job search 

  • professional support to prepare your CV and application forms
  • help with interview preparation and techniques
  • arranging work experience placements to ensure that you find your preferred type of work.
  • access to vacancies from our network of employers

In work support

We will continue to provide support and advice to you and your employer even after you have started work, ensuring your move into employment is successful.

Specialist support services

Together with our network of specialist partner organisations we can provide you with access to a whole range of additional support services such as:
  • support for people that want to become self employed
  • access to debt management organisations
  • specialist support for individual health conditions and disabilities.
