Careers

One of the reasons that Shaw Trust has been so successful is the calibre of our staff team. We work hard to select the most talented and enthusiastic individuals to deliver our services.

We have more than 1,100 employees, working from 200 locations across the UK. This encompasses a wide variety of roles, from employment and independence services staff, through commercial and retail jobs, to head office and support centre work.

Shaw Trust welcomes applications from disabled candidates. Your personal direct experience and/or knowledge of disability will be viewed as an advantage. We support the government’s Access to Work scheme and we’re a Disability Confident employer that offers an interview to disabled people who meet the minimum criteria for vacancies advertised.

We recognise that everyone is different, so in addition to our core benefits, employees have the option to tailor a benefits package to suit their lifestyle through our employee benefits scheme.

Access to Work

An Access to Work government grant can pay for practical support if you have a disability, health or mental health condition, to help you start working, stay in work, move into self-employment or start a business. How much you get depends on your circumstances and is capped at £40, 800 per year.

The money doesn’t have to be paid back and will not affect your other benefits, although you might not qualify if you receive Incapacity Benefit, Employment and Support Allowance, Severe Disablement Allowance, Income Support or National Insurance Credits.

Access to Work grants are available if the employer is based in England, Scotland or Wales and if you are 16 or over and about to start a job or work trial or in a paid job or self-employed.

To qualify, your disability or health condition must affect your ability to do a job or mean you have to pay work-related costs. For example, special computer equipment, a communicator for a job interview or travel costs because you can’t use public transport. Your mental health condition must affect your ability to do a job. It must also mean you need support to start a new job, reduce absence from work and stay in work.

You can find out more at the Department for Work and Pensions’ Access to Work website (opens in new tab or window), by emailing atwosu.london@dwp.gsi.gov.uk (opens in new window), or by calling 0345 268 8489 (telephone) or 0345 608 8753 (textphone).

Shaw Trust Careers

Matt Dods - Client

“I wasn’t very academic at school and before Shaw Trust started helping me I had no confidence – I wouldn’t say boo to a goose. I now have a part-time role as a cleaner for North Hertfordshire Homes and I love it.” Matt

Jim - Client

"I got help with my long-standing housing issue and my case manager managed to save my flat. She kept me active rather than let me just sit there worrying. If it wasn't for her help, I would have lost the flat.” Jim

Urfan - Client

“I was out of work for three years before I was given a chance. I was applying for lots of jobs but kept getting rejected. I struggled as I have learning difficulties and a speech and hearing impediment. The more rejections I got, the less confidence I had. When I came to Shaw Trust I met my adviser – she was fantastic. She helped me improve my communication skills and got me work experience. It was a confidence boost and over time my speech got better.” Urfan

Gemma - Client

“My adviser is absolutely amazing. He’s helped me get counselling to combat my anxiety and I’ve learnt how to look after myself. I’ve also had life coaching so I know how to deal with failure and turn it into success. I’m much happier now. Shaw Trust treated me like a real person. They really care.” Gemma
