Shaw Trust Launches London charity collection service

Shaw Trust is launching a trial for a new charity collections service called GoneForGood.

The app-based service is designed to ease the process by which donors can arrange collections of goods for free from their homes which otherwise may go to landfill or otherwise be lost.

Many potential donors, particularly of larger goods, find it difficult to get those goods to charities that they wish to donate to, whether due to a lack of fleet capacity within local stores or their own lack of suitable transportation. With the GoneForGood Charity Van Service, they can book a collection at a convenient time while also selecting Shaw Trust (or one of seven other charities) as the recipient of their donation.  GoneForGood then sends one of its fleet of vans to collect at the appointed time, driven by a former member of the armed forces and deliver the items to one of our participating stores.

Three of Shaw Trust's London stores are participating in this pilot, which it is hoped will increase donation levels to our stores while also offering added convenience to our supporters. The pilot is now live and will run until the end of April.

Paola Richardson, our Digital Retail Manager, said:

"This is an exciting time for Shaw trust to participate in this innovative trial, alongside other well-known national charities.

"This is part of our retail strategy to not only increase quality and volumes of donations but also to engage better with our donors and raise awareness about Shaw Trust. We are working on increasing the surplus generated by our Retail operations by opening new retail channels online and disrupting the sector focusing on customer and donor experience. This trial is a first step towards this ambition.

"We recently started to develop our own in-house collection capability. However the disparity of our retail estate makes it challenging to offer a collection service nationally. Finding the right partners can help us complement our offer, remain competitive and accelerate our expansion plans.

"During this six month pilot we will measure the quality and value of the donations we will collect as well as assessing the donor experience. I am inviting all staff in the trial area (inside M25) who couldn't easily drop off their donations to a Shaw Trust shop to donate using this app and feedback to us on their experience."
