Shaw Trust has been awarded the Prestigious Centre of Excellence status for its Mental Health service in London - one of only 19 Centre’s of Excellence in the UK.
service in London, developed by Shaw Trust – a charity helping to transform the lives of young people and adults across the UK and internationally, has been recognised as a National Individual Placement and Support (IPS) Centre of Excellence by the Centre for Mental Health. Shaw Trust is one of only 19 in the country with this recognition and the first organisation to be partnered with an Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) team.
Aim4Work is a free, specialist employment programme for people with mental health conditions living in South London, North London and East London. Aim4Work is funded by the European Social Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund. The programme uses the IPS model to help individuals find sustainable work.
This recognition highlights the fantastic work Shaw Trust and the Community Health and Wellbeing Directorate do to support our participants. Being one of only 19 Centres of Excellence in the UK shows us as a leading expert in the IPS world, but ultimately it shows more of our participants will go into competitive paid employment.
To achieve this accolade, an organisation needs to have a Fidelity Review on the service. The Fidelity Review, reviews the key eight principles of IPS, working in partnership with the mental health team, zero exclusion, in work support and employer engagement.
Many months of preparation is required and on the day, the reviewer interviews the employment team, the mental health team, a group of participants as well as reviewing a number of participant files. To achieve Centre of Excellence a service needs to score more than 100; which we are pleased to report Shaw Trust has. We recognised the success of this model and are focusing on securing future IPS services.
Upon hearing the news Austin Hardie, Operational Managing Director of Charitable Services, Enterprise and Community Health and Wellbeing said: “The Shaw Trust group is extremely proud to be awarded as an IPS Centre of Excellence for our IPS Service in London, in partnership with Haringey IAPT service. The recognition is evidence of the hard work the Aim4Work team has put in, our commitment to the IPS model and the support being offered to our participants as we help to transform lives. Shaw Trust is also enormously proud to also be the first Centre of Excellence in the country to be partnered with an IAPT Team.”
Harry O’Hayon, Clinical & Operational Lead, IAPT said: “The entire team of Haringey's IAPT Let's Talk is thrilled to be the first and only IAPT in the country to have received IPS Centre of Excellence status! This is without doubt a true testament, and well-deserved validation, of the hard and excellent work our employees do every day, and of the strength of our partnership with the charity Shaw Trust who co-deliver this provision with us.”
Jan Hutchinson, Director of Programmes and Performance at the Centre for Mental Health said: “We are delighted that the Shaw Trust IPS service in Haringey with Whittington Health has achieved recognition as an IPS Centre of Excellence. This is the first IPS employment service integrated within IAPT to achieve recognition as an IPS Centre of Excellence.”
