Welcome to Work First Scotland​
 
Work First Scotland is a voluntary, Scottish Government supported programme for people who, due to their disability, may find it difficult to find or stay in work.

You can access Work First Scotland in a number of ways:

  1. you can get a referral from their Job Centre Plus (JCP) Employment Adviser or Disability Employment Adviser (DEA).
  2. You can also seek a referral from other organsitions. Download a list of statutory referral organisations (SRO) (PDF, 108 KB, opens/downloads in new tab or window).
  3. You can refer yourself by contacting Shaw Trust directly by calling 0300 30 33 111 or e-mailing support@shaw-trust.org.uk (opens in new window).
 
Those referred, or who refer themselves to the programme will work with one of our expert Employment Advisers. Advisers will provide all the practical guidance, training and support you need throughout your job search. And you won’t be on your own when you’re in work – we will continue to offer support.

Moving into employment

WFS_your first session


The first session will give you a clearer picture of how Work First Scotland can help you find jobs to apply for so you move into employment. You will also have an opportunity to meet some of the key members of staff who will be working with you.

Everything we do is tailored to your needs. Together we will come up with a personalised plan with all the steps to get you into work.

The support Work First Scotland offers includes support with CV writing, job searching, personal development, job-specific training and also help with health and wellbeing so you can make a positive change.  
We partner with lots of companies who can offer work or volunteering opportunities. Plus if you have never worked before, or you would benefit from some new experience, we can offer a work trial to introduce you to the workplace.
 

What happens after you’re in work?
 
WFS_support after you find workOur support doesn’t stop once you’ve found a job. We can support you with things like:
 
Workplace adjustments and Access to Work
(so you can do your new job to the best of your ability)
 
Individually tailored training and development plans
(to help you progress in your new job)
 
Managing your finances
(to ensure you are better off in work)
Looking after your Health and Wellbeing
(with our trained staff in our Wellbeing Works Campus)
 
Support your employer
(through regular contact with our trained In Work support advisers)
 

Keeping in touch
 
We can also help you with any issues or questions related to your role or employer once you are in work.
