Children and Family Services

Each year we work with thousands of children and young people across the country, helping to provide a warm, nurturing environment and the support they need to build their skills for the future. They are often at risk of poor educational attainment, social exclusion, exploitation and substance misuse issues. By working with them we can improve their life chances and do our best to support their transition into adulthood.

What do we do?

In Calderdale we run the over 16s looked after children and care leavers service called Pathways. Our social workers and personal advisers help young people into independence, including housing, education and work. We also make sure that their emotional needs are met. The Calderdale Leaving Care Service was recently graded as Outstanding by Ofsted.

Through Homes2Inspire we run residential care homes providing a safe and caring home for more than 100 young people and flats in the East and West Midlands for those leaving care to learn to live independently. In Yorkshire we have our independent fostering agency, Fostering to Inspire.

We work with many local authorities to provide targeted support to young people most in need, particularly those not in education, employment or training (NEET). This includes our work in partnership with Gloucestershire County Council, to provide the youth support service. The team works with approximately 6,000 vulnerable young people targeting specific groups of young people who are at risk of not making a successful transition into adulthood. The multi-disciplinary team comprises youth workers, family support, health and careers specialists working with police and probation officers, to deliver a number of statutory services. More than 90% of young people supported by the team say it has made a difference to their lives.

We provide similar services for many other authorities including in London, Northamptonshire, Coventry and Warwickshire, Bradford and Wakefield.
